Hello, I’m Kate Etheridge, an experienced integrative counsellor in Brighton
I offer in person therapy for individuals that is trauma informed, queer and neuro- affirmative, and founded on relational, humanistic, existential, compassion focussed and embodied approaches.
Establishing trust and a sense of safety in the therapy relationship is the foundation for the way that I work – by providing a compassionate, calming presence and experience of being attentively and warmly heard, seen and valued, I hope to provide a space where you can bring what you need, to help explore and find a way through your current difficulties and challenges, and to connect deeply with your whole self, finding the freedom to be you.
My experience
I have worked in charities and other services in London and Brighton over the past nine years.
I have particular experience and interest in supporting fellow people within the LGBTQIA+ community and with gender, sexuality and relationship diversity.
I am also experienced in working with: trauma, attachment histories and relationships, addictions, existential concerns, anxiety and depression, chronic shame, loss and bereavement, ageing and life transitions, menopause, and somatic presentations.
My approach
As an integrative counsellor, I use the working relationship that we develop as the foundation for the therapy and as a guide to the range of approaches and theories we can draw on that might be of particular help to you.
I take an holistic approach to wellbeing – working with mindbody interconnectedness and endeavouring to understand you in all your wider life contexts.
I am trauma informed, sensitive to dynamics of power and privilege and am committed to inclusive, anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice.
My grounding
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from Greenwich University.
I am committed to continual further learning and development of myself, my thinking and my practice. I have most recently completed trainings in:
- Body Listening (with the Brighton School of Embodied Therapy)
- Compassion Focussed Therapy (with the Compassionate Mind Foundation)
- Diversity, Cultural Competence, Race & Anti-Discrimination Practice (Diploma with The Anti-Discrimination Focus).
I am a registered member of the BACP (Reg. no. 386468) and work in accordance with its Ethical Framework.
Getting started
My fee is £65 per 50-minute session.
Your therapy can either be for a fixed term or open ended, always with regular ongoing reviews. We will contract for our work together so you will be clear of the terms of our working relationship.
Sessions are usually on a weekly basis at the same time and on the same day. I currently have availability Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in dedicated counselling rooms in central Brighton (BN1 and BN2).
The rooms in BN2 are wheelchair accessible.
If you would like to get a better sense of how we might work together, I offer a free initial 30-minute exploratory discussion – please get in touch.
